Support Worker
Position Overview:
A Support Worker plays a crucial role in providing assistance and support to individuals with disabilities, empowering them to lead fulfilling and independent lives. The primary objective is to enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities by offering personalised care, fostering inclusion, and promoting their physical, emotional, and social well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
Client Support:
Provide hands-on assistance with daily activities, including personal care, hygiene, dressing, and meal preparation.
Assist clients with mobility and transportation, using adaptive equipment as needed.
Support individuals in accessing and participating in community activities, social events, and recreational opportunities.
Personalised Care:
Develop and implement care plans tailored to the unique needs and preferences of each client.
Monitor and administer medications as prescribed, ensuring compliance with medical regimens.
Collaborate with healthcare professionals and families to address specific medical, therapeutic, or behavioural needs.
Communication:
· Maintain clear and open communication with clients, their families, and other support team members.
· Document and report on the progress, challenges, and achievements of clients.
· Facilitate communication and social interaction for clients with communication difficulties.
Advocacy:
Advocate for the rights and interests of individuals with disabilities, promoting their inclusion in all aspects of community life.
Work collaboratively with relevant agencies and organisations to ensure clients receive appropriate services and resources.
Empowerment and Skill Development:
Encourage and assist clients in developing life skills, independence, and self-advocacy.
Provide guidance in educational and vocational pursuits, fostering opportunities for personal growth and development.
Crisis Intervention:
Respond effectively to challenging behaviors or crisis situations, employing de-escalation techniques and following established protocols.
Work with clients to develop strategies for coping with stressors and promoting emotional well-being.
Team Collaboration:
Collaborate with other members of the support team, including healthcare professionals, therapists, and social workers.
Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and training sessions to enhance skills and share insights.
Qualifications:
Relevant education or certifications in disability support, healthcare, or a related field.
Experience in working with individuals with disabilities, demonstrating empathy, patience, and a client-centered approach.
Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations governing disability services.
Strong communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and work independently or as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to provide physical assistance and support, including lifting and transferring clients.
Comfortable using adaptive equipment and technology designed for individuals with disabilities.
Working Conditions:
Variable schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Work may take place in clients' homes, residential facilities, or community settings.
